The awards made by the Institute’s Stopes Research Committee this year (see Annual Report) bring the total expended in grants since the scheme was set up thirteen years ago to a quarter of a million pounds.
From a total of 159 applications received and considered in this period, 68 grants have been awarded which have ranged in amount from £174 to £23,427. All of these projects have, under the terms of reference of the fund, been within the field of population control and population genetics; within this general area there has been an acceptable distribution between biological and sociological enquiries, with a number of genuinely interdisciplinary studies.
