We report, with regret, the death on 13 June 1998 of Harry Armytage, a long-time member of the Institute’s Council and its President from 1976 to 1981. Although in indifferent health during the past two years, he maintained his interest in the Institute's affairs. Last year he wrote a sympathetic obituary of Hans Eysenck which appeared in the December Newsletter and had recently returned a corrected typescript of his fourteenth (now sadly the final) article in his series “The Social Context of Eugenic Thought” which will appear in the March 1999 issue. A short profile of Harry Armytage appeared in the June 1994 Newsletter; a more substantial appreciation of his scholarly achievements and his contribution to the work of the Institute will be produced at a later time.
