Eugenics Research

The Eugenics Society’s records continue to provide a much-used source for scholarly research. The latest Annual Review (for the year ending September 1997) of the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre of the Wellcome Institute lists the Society's archives as the third most heavily consulted amongst its collections both in terms of numbers of users (24) and numbers of productions (861 items). The Marie Stopes papers were also in the “top five” collections ranking fifth for users (19) and fourth for productions (508). The Institute is indebted to the Centre for its custodianship of these important collections and especially to Dr Lesley Hall, the Centre's Senior Assistant Archivist, who has taken an especial interest in their cataloguing and preservation.
