Proceedings of the 1978 Eugenics Society conference edited by W. H. G. Armytage, Robert Chester and John Peel
"Ever since Kinsey’s landmark study, voluminous research and survey projects have opened up the field of human sexuality. Sociologists, psychologists, moralists and anthropologists have all realized its potential, made investigations and published their results. Although many of these studies are intrinsically valuable, the social scientist reading around the subject must now face a plethora of literature on disparate aspects of sexual behaviour. The multidisciplinary nature of this volume, as with earlier Eugenics Society symposia proceedings, gives it a broad and unique appeal. While the keynote is provided by Paul Gebhard’s Galton Lecture on sexuality in the post-Kinsey era, the breadth of scope is indicated by papers on such topics as transsexualism, sexually transmitted diseases, divorce and the development of sexual function therapies. The provision of comprehensive references will enable the reader to pursue particular studies further.
This volume, the proceedings of the fifteenth Annual Symposium of the Eugenics Society, is the first part of a planned trilogy which, when complete, will constitute an authoritative body of research into an area of increasing social concern. The two subsequent volumes will deal with reproductive behaviour and infant and child care. Although these three books are bound to appeal to the professional interest of medical and social scientists, social workers and sociologists, they can also be enjoyed, without need of specialist knowledge, by the lay reader."
