The Institute has two classes of member - ordinary members and fellows. Membership is open to all who share the Institute's aims and objectives. Annual membership/fellowship costs £15 per year and life membership/fellowship costs £75.
Members receive the Institute's Newsletter and the published proceedings of the Institute's annual conference free of charge.
New members are normally admitted initially as ordinary members (annual or life) and upgraded to Fellowship on making a significant contribution to the Institute's objectives. Only Fellows may be elected to Council or hold offices within the Institute.
Council is the Institute's governing body and comprises five Officers and up to fourteen ordinary members. It is a working body and its members are expected to attend three meetings a year in London, to write for the Newsletter or to contribute in some other way to the work of the Institute. The limitations on length of service laid down in the Institute's Articles ensure the regular rotation of Officers and Council members and thus afford ample opportunities for Fellows to participate in the government and administration of the Institute.
